40 days & 40 nights

today is the beginning of Lent, the time of self-examination that prepares us for Easter :)

Lent is
traditionally observed by giving up something good, like coffee or chocolate.

i've decided to give up rice and noodles.. which is really hard for me because well, i'm asian. and that's what asian people eat. rice and noodles. all the live long day.

i'm pretty sure i will look like this once Lent is over and done with..

just replace that burrito with a bowl of rice.. or pho.. or ramen.. or pasta.. jja jjang myun.. jap chae.. kimchee fried rice.. bah

wish me luck!

2010 Handbook

my friend forwarded me the below list that she got from her parents :) thought it was super cute and reminded me of something my parents would say/do. plus, totally wise words to live by!

Health

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
  • Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants..
  • Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
  • Make time to pray.
  • Play more games.
  • Read more books than you did in 2009.
  • Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
  • Sleep for 7 hours.
  • Take a 10-30 minute walk daily. And while you walk, smile.
Personality
  • Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
  • Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
  • Don't overdo. Keep your limits.
  • Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
  • Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
  • Dream more while you are awake.
  • Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need..
  • Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
  • Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.
  • Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
  • No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  • Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
  • Smile and laugh more.
  • You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree..
Society
  • Call your family often.
  • Each day give something good to others.
  • Forgive everyone for everything.
  • Spend time w/people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
  • Try to make at least three people smile each day.
  • What other people think of you is none of your business.
  • Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
Life
  • Do the right thing!
  • Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
  • However good or bad a situation is, it will change..
  • No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
  • The best is yet to come..
  • Your inner most is always happy. So, be happy.

Happy Valentines Day!

hope you all are spending this day of love by loving others.. whether it be a bf/gf, friend, family, neighbor, etc.

it's nice having that one day where you put all things aside and appreciate the people in your life (although you should be doing this on a daily basis!).

for me, i have been blessed by God in so many ways that i decided it was time to give back to those who haven't been as fortunate. i volunteered for a community project that gave valentines day makeovers to abused women/sex slaves so they could feel beautiful on this very special day. it was an amazing experience.

i hope everyone had as special of a valentines day as i did! love (in all forms) is a wonderful thing.

Some NY madness

in chronological order.

photoshoot
my good friend evan is an amazing up and coming photographer. so when he asked me to help him style a photoshoot i jumped at the chance. it was really exciting to see him in action. i know he's going to do big things. peep his photos: http://www.evan-browning.com/

jeffrey & friends
jefferson came to visit me! we ate, drank, and enjoyed NY to our hearts content. oh & went to the museum - for some reason, those are the only pictures i have from his trip. it was really nice having him just 2 blocks away.

leo & unnie's engagement
my sis came to visit me a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by her bf showing up and proposing to her on bow bridge in central park. it was the most perfect day ever. i am so so so happy for them! i couldn't ask for a better brother :)

revel for brunch

NY'ers really like to eat and drink at all hours of the day. therefore a club brunch seems like the perfect combination for NY. it's something most NY'ers have tried at least once in their life. to break it down for you, super pretentious clubs in the meatpacking district serve brunch and alcohol while a dj spins house music in the background. the waiters prance out with massive bottles of wine adorned with sparklers and encourage their patrons to eat and get drunk.

we were there from 2-8PM. dancing on top of chairs. it was an awesomely euro-trashtic time.

my birthday with the homies :) love em to pieces
i feel extremely lucky to have met all these fools and to have them in my life. i would be lost without them :)

even when they do extremely crude things..

sushi uo
live sushi. i was hoping it would be all wriggling and squirming when served.. but sadly, it was more dead than alive. however, it was one of the freshest sushi experiences ever. the chef used to be morimotos apprentice!

blizzard!
my first snowstorm. it was sooo beautiful. it was my first time ever seeing the streets of NY empty. it was really strange. but also very nice.

you can't truly appreciate (and also hate) the winter until you have lived through one.

here's a shot of my street.

first home cooked meal
made dinner for a couple of my close friends and finally broke in my kitchen!

on the menu:
bbq chicken wings, garlic mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, zucchini, corn, biscuits, nutella dumplings & fruit syrup ice cream. all made from scratch (well minus the biscuits. those were store bought haha)

we talked about how one day when we're rich (notice how i said "when" instead of "if"!!!) - we're going to bring up that one night when we were all poor and had to eat dinner on the floor of eileen's teeny tiny studio. i took the picture of brenzo and jamiel below to commemorate our time as broke (but fabulous) NY'ers.

well this sums up my life for the past month or so. it's been a little hectic yet oh so much fun.

also, thanks everyone for your prayers! because of ya'll, my dad is a-okay :) he went to eat buffet straight out of the hospital (and might i add, 2 nights in a row!). crazy haha

Fam

miss them to pieces.

side note, i'm so excited to have a brother! finally.

Aggies

i reconnected with an old college friend today and we chatted for a longgg time. it was so so great catching up with her. she used to work at hot dog on a stick (haha) and would bring me pink lemonade and cheese sticks after her shift :)

made me super nostalgic.

i have so many happy memories of college! ah to be young and stupid again.

oh also i was majorly chubs in college. used to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, late night, del taco, etc. day in and day out. i was homies with the mcdonalds late night drive-thru workers.. no joke. probably having a friend who worked at hot dog on a stick didn't help much either.

reminiscing led me to look up some old pictures from my college hay days <3. and now i'm homesick.
